When designing Interactive Learning, we usually perform the following tasks:

Create Course Map
|
|
|
|
 |
|
|
|
For training to be effective, information must flow and be presented in a certain sequence. The Interactive Designer will create a course map, which is an outline representing the organization of the course. This is so that its scope and sequence can be understood by those who will be using it.

 |
|
|
Treatment
The treatment is the “look and feel” of a course. We look at the target audience , the work environment and things that will motivate the learner. From this we create a treatment. Look at samples of training that we have created and you will be able to easily notice a treatment that matches the target audience.

|
Create Rough Script
|
|
|
|
A rough script is created considering the course map and the treatment. When writing the rough script, the objective is to take the material and content that has been provided and write it in a such a way that it can be easily understood. This is the most difficult and challenging part as the designer needs to be familiar with how the visuals will be presented and use wording that will allow knowledge to smoothly flow to the learner. Keep in mind that writing a script for computer based learning is very different than writing a script for reading!

Create Interactions
In order for training to be effective, it must engage the user and give frequent opportunity for interaction. The goal of creating interactions is to help the learner practice or reinforce what they have learned. Also used as problem solving it can be used as a tool for users to learn by doing. When creating interactions, the designer will look at the subject material and see if it can benefit from some kind of interaction.

Storyboard
|

 |
|
|
|
The next task is to find the best way to present the subject material. The subject material might best be presented through the use of animations, graphics, interactions or simple text. The storyboard contains the details of how the course will be presented. It is used by the customer and the production team as the blue print of how the course should be produced
